The trail is steep, rugged, difficult to follow, and requires second and third class rock scrambling and route finding experience. Start at the Mt. Whitney Trailhead. You will see a sign for the Northfork Trail approximately a mile in. Head north, and switchback up the canyon , until you cross Lone Pine creek twice. Head north through the creek and , pass the waterfall , until you hit a wall. Head west, scrambling the narrow steep slope that hugs the wall until the trail ends, and you will see an approach to Ederbacher ledges. The Ederbacker ledges are Class 2-3, extremely exposed in multiple places, and a helmet is suggested. Traverse the ledges until you top out, and can head west. Stay north of the creek, climb the switchbacks. You will then cross a creek to reach Lower Boy Scout Lake.
